Letter from 2009 PAPOR President Ginger Blazier

Hello!

We are a regional chapter of AAPOR, the American Association for Public Opinion Research (www.aapor.org). For several decades, we have been a group of academics, product vendors, market researchers, journalists, and other researchers who have all shared an interest in figuring out what the public thinks and how they behave. We have looked at public opinion and behavior in many different ways: how people evaluate candidates for public office, whether and how people vote, what they want governments to do or not do, and how they live their lives in ways that impact the rest of us, for example, their health behavior. We also talk about how we can do a better job at designing our studies, measuring opinions and behaviors, and analyzing and presenting the results of our research.

Our main activity is our Annual Conference in December, where people get to present the results of their research. We also host a short course, intended to give our participants new skills for study design, analysis or presentation, or just to update their old skills. We are a very welcoming and congenial group, and the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in Union Square, San Francisco, is a great spot to meet us, discuss, debate and schmooze.

We hope you will join us!

And if you or your organization can help sponsor the event, please do help us out that way! At the annual conference, sponsors get prominent recognition and our immense gratitude, so you'll help publicize your organization and also help us support things such as our student paper competition and our effort to keep our conference fees as reasonable as possible, so we can allow the largest and broadest participation we can get. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me or any of the other board members.

We are also working on offering other opportunities to educate and network, such as a Post AAPOR event, for those members that cannot make it to the AAPOR National conference, along with offering webinars and other learning tools. We welcome any ideas you may have in these areas.

Thank you for your participation and support.

All the best wishes,
Ginger Blazier
